Looking for the ancient and the secluded in Maastricht, the birthplace of the European Union
   Release time:2018-12-12 16:40:29

Maastricht treaty was signed in 1992 and the European Union was born, which made Maastricht, a small city in the south of the Netherlands, famous for a time.
This is a typical European city: Romantic streets covered with medieval stone bricks and delicious authentic food. The mixed culture of France, Germany and Belgium interweave here, bringing a charming charm of old European city. As early as 50 B.C., Maastricht was a military fortress and trading post of the Roman people. It was invaded by Britain, France, Spain and Germany. There were obvious differences between Maastricht and the northern Netherlands in diet, architecture, religion and even language tone.
In this small town, you can find the older churches, the older bridges and as many as 1450 monuments in Holland. Moreover, you will find unexpected things, such as visiting the church bookstore, staying in the five-star church Hotel, and seeing several kilometers of murals in the cave. If you come at the right time to catch up with the Maastricht carnival, it will be an eye opener!
Transportation: after arriving at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, you can drive to Maastricht for about three and a half hours, or you can take a train from Schiphol airport for two and a half hours, and transfer at Utrecht in the middle. The one-way ticket price is 27.5 euro
